Removable Retainers:

These retainers are typically made of clear plastic or acrylic material and can be easily taken out for eating, brushing, and flossing. Removable retainers offer convenience and are usually worn full-time initially, gradually transitioning to night time-only wear as your orthodontist recommends.

Fixed Retainers:

Also known as bonded or permanent retainers, these are thin wires that are attached to the back surfaces of your teeth using dental cement. Fixed retainers are always in place, ensuring your teeth stay in their corrected positions without any effort on your part.

They do not require any maintenance other than normal brushing and a regular scale and polish.

Why Use Retainers?
Maintaining Alignment

After orthodontic treatment, your teeth need time to settle into their new positions. Retainers help prevent teeth from shifting back to their original misaligned state, ensuring your smile remains straight and beautiful.

Preventing Relapse

Without the use of retainers, there is a risk of orthodontic relapse, where teeth gradually shift back to their pre-treatment positions. Consistent retainer wear is crucial in preventing relapse and preserving the results of your orthodontic treatment.

Protecting Your Investment

Orthodontic treatment requires a significant investment of time, effort, and finances. By faithfully wearing your retainers, you protect the investment you made in achieving a straight smile and avoid the need for additional orthodontic treatment down the road. Subject to affordability, age and status. Minimum spend applies

Gradual Transition

We will guide you on the recommended duration of retainer wear. Typically, full-time wear is recommended initially, followed by a gradual transition to night time-only wear. This approach allows for gradual stabilisation of your teeth while ensuring long-term retention.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to wearing your retainers. By following our instructions and incorporating retainer wear into your daily routine, you can enjoy the benefits of a straight smile for years to come.
