More and more teenagers are seeking orthodontic treatment to transform the appearance of their smiles, especially in our modern social media-obsessed age.
Invisalign Teen offers a virtually invisible straightening option, without the need to resort to visible metal braces. No one else needs to know the aligners are there!
Invisalign Teen carries all the benefits of advanced Invisalign treatment, specially designed for teenage smiles. It works more comfortably and discreetly than the traditional option, and fits seamlessly into your teen’s lifestyle. Removable aligners allow sport, music and other hobbies to continue unaffected, and there are no restrictions on what your teen can eat or drink.
The aligners can also be taken out for cleaning, promoting better oral hygiene during treatment. The benefits are enormous and we can achieve outstanding results.
We can use Invisalign aligners with mandibular advancement to correct bite issues at the same time as straightening the teeth for our teenage patients.
Enhanced precision ‘wings’ are fitted to the clear aligners, designed to replicate the effect given by more traditional functional appliances. These wings on both the upper and lower aligners lock together to bring the lower jaw forward and into a more desirable position.
With Invisalign, we are able to do this in a far more aesthetic and comfortable way, and treatment times are often shorter because we can combine both the advancement and alignment stage in one phase. Your teen can achieve a beautifully straight and functional smile in a discreet, precise and effective way.
Invisalign First is an innovative orthodontic treatment designed for children aged 8 to 10 with a mix of baby teeth and developing permanent teeth.
It uses Invisalign’s trademark clear aligners, which are custom made, comfortable and able to be removed for eating and cleaning. The treatment can be used for a range of orthodontic issues, including bite problems and appearance.
Invisalign First is specially designed for growing mouths. The aligners gradually move the positions of the teeth and are made to accommodate both existing teeth and incoming adult teeth. Phase 1 treatment, as this is known, is used as an interceptive short course of treatment to stop developing problems and give a solid foundation for further treatment when all permanent teeth are in place.
In most cases, you will likely be able to tell if your child or teenager could benefit from orthodontic treatment. You may be able to see misalignment, crowded teeth or an issue with the way the teeth bite together. Your dentist should also be able to advise you on whether your child would benefit from orthodontic treatment and refer them to our care at the correct time.
Invisalign treatment is only available as a private option. On the NHS, we can provide fixed braces, but if you would prefer Invisalign, we are happy to see you on a private basis to discuss your options.
Orthodontic treatment is not typically painful, but can be uncomfortable, especially when fixed braces have first been fitted or after they have been adjusted. Invisalign is a more comfortable appliance compared with fixed braces as it is designed with comfort in mind, with the digital technology ensuring that the custom made clear aligners have a snug and accurate fit.
Simply get in touch! We accept self-referrals, and would be happy to see you and your child for a consultation to see if Invisalign First or Teen treatment would be suitable. Alternatively, your general dentist may suggest your child would benefit from orthodontic treatment and you are able to choose Invisalign if it is a suitable option.
Based on your Doctor’s prescription a 3D simulation of your child’s tooth movement and final result is made.
Once approved by your Doctor, a series of aligners are custom-made in Align Technology’s laboratories using advanced 3D computer imaging technology.
Your child will wear each aligner for 22 hours per day for 7-14 days each before replacing it with the next aligner in the series until the teeth have been moved to the position prescribed by your doctor.
Yes, Invisalign® has a mandibular advancement feature which is a more comfortable way of bringing the mandible forward as it advances it gradually rather than in one jump.
You can also align your teeth at the same time as the mandibular advancement, whereas with a twin block you start the aligning after the advancement has finished.
The aligners are made from clear plastic, so they are nearly invisible.
Even when very close, most people will not notice you are straightening your teeth – unless you tell them!
Your child can drink clear drinks, but the aligners will need to be removed for non-clear drinks and for eating. This means they can enjoy their favourite food and drinks, whereas, with fixed braces there are some foods that have to be avoided.
They need to be committed to wearing their aligners at all times except for eating, drinking, cleaning and flossing.
Aligners may temporarily affect the speech of some people, and your child may have a slight lisp for a day or two that would gradually improve.
