Children who qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment are likely to have issues including:
We use the IOTN (Index of Treatment Need) to assess the need and eligibility of children seeking NHS orthodontic treatment. This is an objective and reliable method to determine those who will benefit most from treatment, and we are extremely well practised in its use. It involves looking at the dental health and aesthetic components of your child’s smile and grading these to ascertain if they qualify for NHS treatment.
If your child does not qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment, we can still offer our services, but this would be on a private basis.
We are happy to arrange an NHS orthodontic assessment for all children requiring it. Every child is entitled to a orthodontic consultation through the NHS with a referral from their general dentist. Once we have received the referral, we invite you to contact us to schedule an appointment for your assessment. For non-urgent cases, there is currently a 10-12 month waiting time for an initial assessment and a 2 year waiting time to start treatment.
If we deem your child’s treatment to be urgent, we would fast track your child’s consultation and treatment, as to not compromise their treatment outcome. Your dentist should be able to notify us if they think that there is a need for an urgent assessment.
If you have had an NHS assessment there are a variety of scenarios which can occur following your appointment:
